Gravitation is an example of centripetal force. Centrifugal force moves us away from the center. The thrust created by a rocket engine is an example of centrifugal force. To take the example one step further, rockets manage to escape the Earth's gravitational pull (centripetal force) by creating a greater counteracting thrust (centrifugal force).

Evolution of dogs

nklin6 asked:

Did all of the different breeds of dogs start with one dog?

bikesnotbombs answered:

Yes. Evolutionarily, all dogs began as wolves. They evolved somewhat on their own into slightly different breeds based on location and variation, but really began to develop into the breeds we know today when they were domesticated by humans and certain traits became desirable to different people. While increasing the size of an object can increase its mass, two objects of the same size can have different masses, depending on their density. To understand the difference between weight and mass, think about traveling to different planets. On each new planet, your weight (measured in Newtons) will be different because the gravitational force is different, but your mass will always be the same (provided you don't go to the bathroom or get a haircut).

Roger that

jjtrebble asked:

Where did "roger that" come from and what does it mean?

Eratimus answered:

ROGER -- "in the meaning of 'Yes, O.K., I understand you -- is voice code for the letter R. No animal shelter adopts out sick or unhealthy pets as a general rule. Of course, there are exceptions, so ask! Just remember, all pets, whether from the shelter or the store, just like children, need regular doctor check-ups, vaccinations, and more. You can give the vaccinations yourself if you are comfortable with the idea (I do and it isn't that difficult). Besides, if you don't have a lot of money (gee, who does) your local animal shelter's adoption fees will cost a lot less than purchasing a pet from a pet store and you will be saving a life to boot!

I can't take the pressure!

Anonymous asked:

Why don't fish get crushed from the pressure deep in the ocean?

Swampgrowth answered:

Because the pressure inside their bodies is about equal to the water pressure outside their bodies. This is precisely the reason why each individual species of fish is limited to a very specific range of depths. Should the fish venture too deep, the pressures of the overhead water will indeed crush him. Should he venture too shallow, his internal body pressure will exceed that of its surroundings and he will (quite literally) explode. I should add that it would be possible for a fish to move into a depth range that is outside his normal sphere. The fish would have to do so very gradually, however, to give his body time to equalize the pressure difference.

Gravity

Anonymous asked:

How is gravity different in space than on earth?

Swampgrowth answered:

The effects of gravity (i.e. your weight) depend upon your proximity to a massive object. They both were unharmed and the overwhelming gratitude of the little boy's mom made me realize just how precious life really is. It also makes me realize that my problems really are just minor setbacks. In a strange way I'm grateful that I was there to witness it.

mom2rpn replied:

Thanks for sharing this story with us. WOW, that's amazing. Life is so very precious that we all take it for granted. No amount of money and no big house or how successful you are could ever replace your child and the love you have for that child. You should write this story in your local newspaper for everyone to read and maybe the hero would read it too.

Salem7717 replied:

How enlightening situations like this can be for all of us. It can really bring tears to your eyes at the lengths people will go to to help another, often putting their own life on the line. When I was 12 I also jumped in front of a car to save my three year old sister. I'm not sure why I did it. I just remember seeing my sister in danger. It is so good to know that there are good people out there in a society where every news report includes either unnecessary abuse or murder. Did it have the same problem before? If so, you might have a deeper seat on the hot side. Second, pull out the stem and make sure there is nothing blocking it. Third, make sure you are using the right stem. Fourth, when you pull the stem out grease it well and try loosening the packing nut. Crank it all the way open and work it back and forth until it works properly. Fifth, make sure that the sleeve or the wall plate is not obstructing the movement of the stem. And last, if all else fails take the stem back and get a new one, as it might be defective. Water droplets are taken up into the cloud, freeze, and fall to the lower part of the cloud. The frozen droplets melt and are taken back up into the cloud again. The cycle repeats until the droplets are too heavy to be lifted by the updraft. At this point the droplets fall from the cloud as hail.

Now that's Deep

Anonymous asked:

What is the deepest canyon in the United States?

landbeck answered:

Hell's Canyon in Idaho is 7,900 feet deep.

Save the Hair

Anonymous asked:

My father saves his hair after he cuts it himself. That being said, no matter which option you choose to use, be sure to get as much information (health issues, aggression issues, etc. etc) about any animal you decide to adopt. Do your research on whatever breed of dog or cat you decide to adopt online so that you know what type of temperment, health issues, grooming needs, etc. etc. are associated with that breed. And if it is a mixed breed research both breeds. If you want a pure bred dog do a search for Rescue Organizations for that particular breed. There are thousands of adoptable pets out there that need a forever home, but you need to be sure that you get the right type of dog or cat that fits your lifestyle! Good Luck! I have a friend with such a wall and she framed pieces of colored paper and arranged them, all with black frames. It sounds awful, but no, it’s spectacular. When a wall is a white elephant, then you actually want to draw attention to it by making it a focal point. Either a large piece of furniture or something stimulating to the mind to look at. Color is good but not enough alone, you must balance that wall with furniture, art, something. Just experiment. That's really all the advice I can think of right now...

Pet Commitment

Anonymous asked:

When you adopt a pet, you have to sign something saying you won't bring it back, right?

purple sparklies answered:

At my animal shelter, I had to sign something saying that I wouldn't return the animal, and that I wouldn't give the animal away to other people. Why is this bone broken more often than any other? There is a pretty interesting answer. When people fall, they instinctively try to hold out their arms to brace themselves with their hands. This is important, because if the fall wasn't broken with outstretched hands, the body would smash against the ground, and possibly damage vital internal organs.

Flaunt It!

Anonymous asked:

What is the perfect body one that is curvy or one that is flat and toned?

Bored5297740 answered:

I think the perfect body is one that is just right not too curvy and not to skinny! This is what I was told to do by the hair dresser: do a conditioner mask. Mix all types deep conditioners together, just rub in your hair then get a shower cap. Keep all of the hair in the cap. Just take hair dryer and blow dry the cap for about 10-15 min, then sleep in the cap. Wash in the morning and it really did help. Dogs are loving and great companions and are probably more interesting than a cat but they need to have someone home with them for company. They need long walks and alot of time and attention. With cats, they are loving but very independent. They will come up to be stroked now and then, need feeding, but they like to get on with things alone. Do eat: Whole grains, and lots of fiber. Fruits and vegetables, and lots of protein. Eggs and reduced fat milk are good too. Most importantly; exercise. Start small, but work towards a combination of aerobic (running, swimming, biking) and anaerobic (sprinting, weightlifting) exercises. All you can do is practice your scales. See if there is any free or inexpensive vocal classes in your area or maybe join a choir or school singing group. Basically the more you exercise those vocal chords the stronger they get. Just don't practice late at night or in the shower! You'll lose friends fast! The wires are a suitable size to allow birds to perch and rest comfortably. When a bird sits on a perch that is the appropriate diameter, (its) feet can wrap around well. As (its) legs bend, a tendon pulls on the toes and tightens the grip . . . on the wire. This means that birds can hold on tight, even when they are sleeping.

Cold Territory

Anonymous asked:

What are the two Canadian Provinces that border the state of Alaska?

syslib answered:

British Columbia and the Yukon Territory.
