Running Hot and Cold

margiep asked:
I put new stems in a bathtub faucet (the type that have a diverter to the shower). The cold handle works fine but the hot water handle doesn't have as much turn as the cold. Is it not tight enough or too tight? I can't figure it out. Thank you.

There could be several problems. Did it have the same problem before? If so, you might have a deeper seat on the hot side. Second, pull out the stem and make sure there is nothing blocking it. Third, make sure you are using the right stem. Fourth, when you pull the stem out grease it well and try loosening the packing nut. Crank it all the way open and work it back and forth until it works properly. Fifth, make sure that the sleeve or the wall plate is not obstructing the movement of the stem. And last, if all else fails take the stem back and get a new one, as it might be defective. Good luck.
