Hail from Heaven

Anonymous asked:
Where does hail come from?

answered:
Hail is formed by updrafts in cumulonimbus clouds (storm clouds). Water droplets are taken up into the cloud, freeze, and fall to the lower part of the cloud. The frozen droplets melt and are taken back up into the cloud again. The cycle repeats until the droplets are too heavy to be lifted by the updraft. At this point the droplets fall from the cloud as hail.
